Miranda gave out the Rochelle Hadley Bruhn scholarship award this year to Leanna Zamora.  Miranda also wrote the following speech which she read:

Hello everyone, I’m Miranda and my Mom was Rochelle Hadley Bruhn.  This scholarship was put in place in honor of her memory as a Solvang School teacher.  Rochelle was a loving and wonderful person, so I have heard, she cared about her family and her students more than anything else.  Her days as a teacher were cut short as she soon developed melanoma.  She was a proud mother for a short while but ended up passing due to the cancer.  I did not have the honor to be with her long.  I have heard stories about her love for children and teaching and how her students loved her.  Today I have the honor of announcing a young student who resembles much of what my Mother was like.  This person is compassionate, humble and down to earth.  This student has a bright future ahead and will change kids lives.  It is my honor to announce that Leanna Zamora has been chosen to be this year’s recipient of the Rochelle Hadley Bruhn Memorial Scholarship.
